THE STORY OF COSMOS
Building the
Internet of
Blockchains
Cosmos is a thriving decentralized network of independent
interconnected blockchains, with more than $140 billion of digital
assets under management and the Cosmos Hub at its heart. We
value interoperability, scalability, and usability above all. That's
why we're building a new sustainable internet—the Internet of
Blockchains—that challenges existing monopolies, enables new
business models, and allows everyone to have a stake in its
ownership.
Blockchains give us the opportunity to transfer value from peer-
to-peer, empowering people to create decentralized
communities, in which goods and services can be exchanged
beyond the limitations of today's financial system. Before Cosmos,
blockchains were siloed, unable to communicate with each other,
and difficult to build. They had limited transaction throughput,
making them susceptible to network congestion and high fees.

Cosmos solves these challenging problems, enabling blockchains
to scale and connect with a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus
mechanism that achieves high performance with low energy
consumption. Through industry-leading application components
like CometBFT, Cosmos SDK, and the IBC protocol, building a
high-speed autonomous blockchain and interacting with other
chains is easy…
The world is about to get a lot more connected. Why not join us
and plug into the fastest-growing blockchain ecosystem in the
space?

History of Cosmos
2014
Jae Kwon was the first person who applied Byzantine Fault Tolerance
(BFT) research in a "Proof of Stake" (PoS) public blockchain context,
and went on to found Tendermint Inc (All in Bits Inc)
Tendermint BFT is the most advanced implementation of BFT
consensus algorithm and Proof-of-Stake (PoS) crypto economics to
date. The project launched to address the speed, scalability, and
environmental issues associated with Bitcoin and Ethereum’s "Proof of
Work" (PoW)

2015
Ethan Buchman joined forces with Jae Kwon to develop Tendermint
after meeting at the Cryptocurrency Research Group and Crypto-
economics Conference
All in Bits Inc and Monax collaborated to implement the EVM on top
of Tendermint BFT (Ethermint 1.0)
Tendermint BFT is pluggable with applications written in any language
via the Application Blockchain Interface (ABCI)
